1/2 Day Llama Trek

Guests typically arrive at Swan Mountain Ranch at 9:30 am for their lunch date with a llama. We will pack the llamas with our lunch and chairs, tables, etc. and then head out into the forest after a briefing on llama facts and safety. We will take a moderately difficult hike along wooded trails with a total elevation gain of 800ft. By noon, everyone will have worked up an appetite so we’ll park our llamas and set up lunch near a beautiful waterfall. On a hot day you can dip your feet in or even jump in to the chilly snowmelt fed waterfall pool. After a relaxing lunch we will work our way back to the trailhead to say goodbye to our llama buddies. (hiking poles may be a good idea if you are concerned for the steep downhill). During peak season llamas may be shared between 2 hikers. In these cases each guest will be able to lead the llama for half of the trip. Please note that you will be required to drive your own vehicle out to the trailhead on a rough dirt road to start your trek.

4 Day Llama Trek

Our 4-Day Llama Treks run from July through early September, when the high country is accessible. We hike 3 to 8 miles per day, covering a maximum of 25 miles. Our delightful llamas tote our gear with ease as we meander along the Swan Divide of the Flathead National Forest, a spectacular ridgetop trail with endless views of three surrounding wilderness areas, the Continental Divide and Glacier National Park. The typical group size for our hiking vacation packages is 4-7 people, and when necessary, smaller groups may be combined. Larger groups can occasionally be accommodated by special arrangement. Children are welcome, generally ages 7 and up. The Alpine Trail ranges from 6,000 to 7,500′. The hiking on this trip is moderately strenuous given that you follow a ridgetop trail through mountainous terrain. We go at a leisurely pace with plenty of time for rest stops, lunch breaks and marveling at the fantastic panoramic views.
Please note we do not accept online reservations.

Our mules pack in all the gear including a hearty lunch and refreshments. All you have to do is relax, fish, and enjoy an epic Montana day in the pristine solitude of the Swan Valley! Each guest is responsible for purchasing their own fishing license. More details on how to purchase this license are sent out in the trip confirmation emails.

All Day Llama Trek

Guests need to arrive at Swan Mountain Ranch at 8:30 am for their all day guided llama trekking adventure, where we will give a llama orientation and trail safety speech. Then everyone will be piled into our llama trekkers van, and we will drive with trailered llamas in tow to Napa Point atop of the Swan Mountain Range in the Swan River State Forest bordering the Flathead National Forest. Upon arrival, we will unload guests and llamas alike, pack up our lunch provisions and chairs, and head out onto the trail. Guests will be treated with killer views of the Swan Valley and the expanse of the Swan and Mission ranges. We also have the option to go hiking on two popular nature trails in the Swan Valley that are chalk-full of wildlife and informative signs labeling the trees and fauna installed by the state and volunteer groups that maintain the trails. Once done with our hike, we’ll head back to Swan Mountain Ranch, and have you on your way by 4:00pm. During peak season llamas may be shared between guests.

Swan All Day Trail Ride

This ride is NOT INSIDE Glacier National Park. Our Swan- All Day trail rides launch out of our "base camp" at Lion Creek Road near Condon, MT. Swan Mountain Outfitters offers spectacular longer duration trail rides (6 to 8 hours) that include lunch and a stopover at an unforgettable spot. More experienced riders just love this opportunity to ride by horseback high above the valley floor to see the awe-inspiring views of the Mission and Swan Mountains that form the infamous Swan Valley. We usually ride up the Lion Creek drainage paralleling the creek the majority of the ride. Imagine having lunch with your toes soaking in the cool water of the creek, or taking pictures of a waterfall cascading over 100 feet!
We like to get an early morning start, and after fitting stirrups and our safety/training briefing we’re off!
We have a 225lb weight limit for this ride and minimum age of 7 years old.
